I am a PhD Candidate at the University of Washington's Department of Human Centered Design & Engineering. I am also a Research Strategist with the Wikimedia Foundation, where I work on new editor engagement projects and in-house data analytics, and help the organization design research projects and community initiatives that further the Foundation's strategic goals.

My Research

I am a user experience researcher with a background in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and a focus on collaborative systems. I study the way people interact when they're working together on complex, creative tasks online and develop tools to support them in their work.

I believe in the power of action research and in the value of building and studying living laboratories, especially when working on new modes of interaction or complex design problems.

About Me

I live in Seattle, Washington where I enjoy the local coffee and microbrews almost as much as I love complaining about the rain. In my (ever-diminishing) spare time, I play music, chew through sci-fi novels, and I run. I also edit Wikipedia, and occasionally enjoy a good game of racquetball.

About the Site Banners

The Ye Olde-looking banner images used on this site are, in fact, Olde. They were created by John Skylitzes, a Byzantine historian from the 11th Century CE. I thank Mr. Skylitzes for creating such vibrant work, and also for being dead lo these many years so that his work is freely available in the Public Domain.
